Electric Venus Continues To Confound
A scientific paper published this year in Nature Astronomy deepens the many mysteries that the planet Venus presents. The authors were surprised to find chaotic cloud movements on the night-side of Venus’s super-rotating upper atmosphere. The greatest surprise was the discovery of distinct filamentary structures in clouds which appear to touch down on Venus’s mountains. We discuss in this Space News why this is only the latest confirmation of electric currents driving Venusian atmospheric and weather phenomena.
