Is Consciousness More than the Brain? |Thunderbolts Project
A great video from the Thunderbolts Project that fits perfectly into the transhumanist / futurist community. It is a fantastic interview with Dr. Gary Schwartz concerning consciousness and the brain.
If you put some thought into what the good Dr. is saying, it does make sense. The brain may only be a middleman or at worst, just a receiver. In that case, the entire concept of life expansion by moving the mind to a computer my be a fools errand. I am not necessarily saying that the Dr. is right but the concepts he is talking about is very interesting.
Overall, this is a great job by the folks at the Thunderbolts Project.

Not exactly. If we can replicate the functionality of the receiver interface once we better understand the system, we could transfer consciousness to another medium. What chances is the idea of what’s transferring to the computer. We need to transfer the functionality and consciousness could be picked up on the new machine. I suspect there are some memory aspects that would need to be present on the new medium for the transfer to maintain continuity of experience. I don’t think memory of experience transcends the material substance of the brain, but of course I can’t be sure if that.

Great comment Henry. Still the one aspect of the video that I tend to focus on is the part concerning is the brain simply a receiver of information like a TV set in the example given within the video. For arguments sake, lets say that is true. It would make the majority of the efforts of mind uploading or my term humanity uploading would be going in the wrong direction.
