Website Issues – Eyes Open, No Fear
Hello People,
For those who visit the site on an ongoing basis, you will have seen the issues that we had in the early AM hours on August 21st, 2016. I am now going to cover what exactly happened.
The Google Warning regarding unsafe site and other crap is not true. Sadly, I forgot to capture the Google Warning box that was listed for our site but it is and always will be false. Your information is safe, because we do not have any of your information in the first place. What information that is grabbed by Google analytics is hardly useful to anyone and only has a function to provide website statistics. You do not purchase anything from the Wave Chronicle, so we are not going to have any credit card information, because you do not purchase anything from the Wave Chronicle. As always, use common sense when you see website warnings.
Our advertising is managed by Google, so if you follow a link from an advertisement, that is provided by Google and not the Wave Chronicle.
Our websites as of now, did not get hacked. So no login has been targeted or compromised at this point in time, with the information I have been given. That being said, we have had a few folks that have used hacking techniques to view files, articles, that any of you could view. The issue is that it was being done by brute force, which triggered our webhosting site provider WebHostingPad Server to lag or crash.
When WebHostingPad had the issue with the server they made dumb decision to suspend our account. This made all of the crazy messages that everyone saw in the early AM hours on August 21, 2016. This was an over reaction from our webhosting provider. To date our webhosting provider WebHostingPad has not provided the exact data or information regarding the reason for the Server lag or failure they experienced.
The information that our webhosting provider WebHostingPad has provided is a general issue with updating plugins, addins, and other very boring Word Press items. None of these are issues because we have updated to the newest version of Word Press and all associated programs are updated and compliant to the new release. Personally, I am disappointed in the performance and actions of our website provider WebHostingPad. We have been with this company for close to a decade with fantastic service, sadly this has been the worse year we have had with this company.
What has been determined is that we had suspicious activity from Baidu in China. An IP Address string belonging to Baidu performed massive searches against all of our associated websites. In response, the Wave Chronicle has blocked the entire IP Address string. So if you are from China and you are being blocked, that is why. Any issues please contact us by clicking on this link and filling out the form. We do have an active viewership from China, we still love you, please stay with us and change up your IP Address.
To sum everything up, the Wave Chronicle family websites had a massive search attack in the early AM hours on Sunday August 21st, 2016. We banned an IP Address string belonging to Baidu in response. I hope that our website provider WebHostingPad will do a better job in the future managing the hardware and software they own.
As always, strive to do more instead of fighting for your right to do nothing.
