Ultra-Long-Term Drug Delivery
Researchers at MIT and Brigham and Women’s Hospital have developed a new drug capsule that remains in the stomach for up to two weeks after being swallowed, gradually releasing its drug payload. This type of drug delivery could potentially assist in eliminating diseases such as malaria. Predicting Droplet Sizes For Sticky Fluids
A team of MIT engineers show they can predict a liquid’s droplet size distribution, including the likelihood of producing very big and very small droplets, based on one main property: the liquid’s viscoelasticity, or stickiness. Metamaterial – Heat-Induced Shrinkage
Heat is a powerful force that can affect a material in many ways. For example, almost all solid materials when heated, inevitably expand. It is only in very rare instances certain materials do the opposite and actually shrink when heated. It is this class of “metamaterials” a team of engineers are interested in. Carbon Counter – MIT News
A group of MIT researchers took a detailed look at 125 U.S. auto models and found those emitting less carbon are the least expensive to drive overall. Their CarbonCounter app allows you to look up emissions rates for your vehicle or one you are considering buying or leasing. Making Droplets Stick
When farmers spray their fields, a significant portion of the spray bounces right off the plants and lands on the ground. But now, by using a clever combination of two inexpensive, polymer additives, a team of MIT researchers has developed a way to make droplets less bouncy.
